From a branch campus to a coastal community school.
Pengnan Junior High began in August 1970 (ROC 59) as a branch campus of Zhongzheng Junior High, opening with just three classes and 153 students. It became an independent school, "Penghu County Pengnan Junior High School" (澎湖縣立澎南國民中學), in August 1974 (ROC 63). Enrollment grew steadily, reaching 606 students across 13 classes by 1975 and peaking at 707 students in 16 classes by 1980, before gradually declining from 1994 onward as the county's population shifted. The school marked its 50th anniversary with a community parent-child sports day.
澎南國中前身為中正國中澎南分校，成立於民國59年（1970年）8月，初期僅3班153名學生。民國63年（1974年）8月獨立設校，正式定名「澎湖縣立澎南國民中學」。學生人數穩定成長，民國64年（1975年）達606人（13班），民國69年（1980年）達到高峰707人（16班），其後自民國83年（1994年）起隨人口結構變化逐漸減少。學校曾舉辦五十週年校慶親子運動會慶祝建校半世紀。
