National University of Tainan

National University of Tainan (NUTN) traces its history to June 1899, when it was founded under Japanese rule as Tainan Normal School — one of Taiwan's oldest teacher-training institutions. After 1945 it was renamed Taiwan Provincial Tainan Normal School, then upgraded step by step: to Taiwan Provincial Tainan Junior Teachers' College (1962), Taiwan Provincial Tainan Teachers College (1987), and National Tainan Teachers College (1991) once it became a national institution. On August 1, 2004, it was upgraded to full university status and took its present name, completing its transition from a dedicated teacher's college into a comprehensive university.

國立臺南大學創校於1899年（明治32年），日治時期名為臺南師範學校，是台灣歷史最悠久的師資培育機構之一。1945年後更名為臺灣省立臺南師範學校，並逐步改制：1962年升格為臺灣省立臺南師範專科學校，1987年改制臺灣省立臺南師範學院，1991年改隸國立，改稱國立臺南師範學院。2004年8月1日升格為大學，正式定名為國立臺南大學，完成從師範學院到綜合大學的轉型。
