Over 125 years of teacher training in Da'an.
National Taipei University of Education (NTUE) traces its origin to 1896, when it was founded as Zhishanyan School — one of the very first modern schools established in Taiwan, at the start of Japanese colonial rule. Renamed Taihoku Normal School in 1897, it became the Taiwan Governor-General's Office Taipei Normal School in 1920, split into two normal schools in 1927, and merged back together in 1943. After 1945 it was renamed Taiwan Provincial Normal School, then restructured several more times — becoming a junior teachers college in 1961, a normal college in 1987, and passing to national administration as National Taipei Teachers College in 1991 — before being elevated to full university status in 2005 under its current name. More than 100,000 alumni have passed through the institution, which remains centered on teacher training while having broadened into humanities, arts, and science.
