National Taitung University's roots go back to 1948, when it opened as "臺灣省立臺東師範學校" (Taiwan Provincial Taitung Normal School). It became Taitung Normal Junior College in 1967, was upgraded to Taitung Normal College in 1987, gained national status in 1991, and finally became a full comprehensive university in 2003. Today NTTU offers programs across colleges of humanities, science and engineering, and education, along with graduate and doctoral programs, serving approximately 3,668 students. The university maintains a dedicated English-language site for international students and holds exchange agreements with partner universities in Japan, South Korea, the United States, Russia, and mainland China, promoting itself as a "Green International University."
國立臺東大學的歷史可追溯至1948年,創校時名為「臺灣省立臺東師範學校」。1967年改制為臺東師範專科學校,1987年升格為臺東師範學院,1991年改隸國立,2003年正式轉型為綜合大學。目前設有人文學院、理工學院、教育學院,並提供碩博士班課程,在學學生約3,668人。學校設有專屬的國際學生英文網站,並與日本、韓國、美國、俄羅斯及中國大陸的夥伴大學簽有交流協議,並以「綠色國際大學」自我定位。
