Neili's oldest school.
Neili Elementary traces its roots to April 1940, when it opened as a satellite classroom of Xinjie Elementary School during the Japanese colonial era. It became an independent school in 1945 under the name Kanzikya (崁子腳) Elementary, then took its current name, Neili, in 1950. As the oldest school in the Neili area, it holds a dedicated archival record in Taiwan's National Culture Memory Bank documenting its development from 1940 to 2001. The school grew explosively from the postwar period through the 1970s and 80s as mainland-relocated factories and the Neili/Zhongli Industrial Park drew waves of workers' families into the area — at one point in the 1980s, it was the most populous elementary school in all of Taoyuan County.

👥 Once Taoyuan's Largest Elementary School
曾為桃園縣最大國小
At its peak in the 1980s, Neili Elementary was the most populous elementary school in Taoyuan County, a reflection of Zhongli's rapid industrial-era population boom.
A timeline of Zhongli's industrial rise.
Neili Elementary's enrollment curve is essentially a timeline of Zhongli's transformation from farmland into one of Taiwan's densest manufacturing belts. As mainland-relocated factories opened through the postwar decades, workers and their families settled around the school in growing numbers, culminating in its status as Taoyuan County's largest elementary school in the 1980s — a growth pattern repeated, in smaller form, across several of Zhongli's other industrial-era schools.
