The first national university reborn in Taiwan.
National Chengchi University (NCCU) was founded in 1927 in Nanjing, China, as the Central School of Party Affairs, training government and party officials under founding president Chiang Kai-shek. In 1946 it merged with the Central Cadres Institute to form National Chengchi University, and was placed under the Ministry of Education the following year. The university was suspended after the Republic of China government relocated to Taiwan in 1949, then reopened in 1954 in Taipei's Muzha area — now Wenshan District — as the first national university re-established in Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War. It has since grown into one of Asia's leading centers for humanities and social science research, particularly strong in law, journalism, international affairs, and business.
