From industrial junior college to national university.
National United University (NUU) traces its roots to 1972, when it opened as Lien Ho Industrial and Technological Junior College. It was upgraded to a national institute of technology in 1999, and became a full national university in 2003. Today NUU is the only public university based in Miaoli County, offering 19 academic departments and 15 master's programs across six colleges, including a College of Hakka Studies dedicated to researching and preserving Hakka language and culture.
國立聯合大學創校於民國61年（1972年），前身為聯合工業技藝專科學校，民國88年（1999年）改制為國立聯合技術學院，民國92年（2003年）正式升格為大學。作為苗栗縣唯一的公立大學，聯合大學現設有19個學系與15個碩士班，橫跨六大學院，其中客家學院致力於客家語言與文化的研究與保存。
