National Sun Yat-sen University

National Sun Yat-sen University traces its founding to 1924, when Dr. Sun Yat-sen established National Kwangtung University in Guangzhou, China (renamed National Sun Yat-sen University in 1926 in his memory). The university was re-established at its present Kaohsiung location on November 12, 1980. Its Sizihwan campus, partly modeled on Caltech for its graduate-level focus and on UC San Diego for its physical construction, sits directly on Kaohsiung Harbor beside the historic Cihou Lighthouse and the former British Consulate. Today NSYSU is organized into ten colleges — including Taiwan's first College of Marine Sciences — and consistently ranks among Taiwan's top universities.

國立中山大學可追溯至1924年，由孫中山先生在中國廣州創立「國立廣東大學」（1926年為紀念孫中山先生而更名為國立中山大學）。民國69年（1980年）11月12日於高雄現址復校。西子灣校區部分仿效加州理工學院的研究所導向規劃，並參考加州大學聖地牙哥分校的建築配置，緊鄰高雄港，與歷史悠久的旗後燈塔及前英國領事館相鄰。現今中山大學設有十大學院——包括全台第一個海洋科學學院——並在多項國際排名中穩居台灣頂尖大學之列。
