The only junior high for a whole township.
Nanzhuang Junior High School was founded during Nanzhuang's timber and mining boom, when the local population reached over 20,000 and remote mountain roads forced students to board away from home for schooling. A preparatory committee formed on April 7, 1961, groundbreaking followed on April 23, and classes began that August as Nanzhuang Junior Middle School, renamed Nanzhuang Junior High in 1968. Today it remains the only junior high school serving all of Nanzhuang Township, located about 650 meters from the historic Nanzhuang Old Street and Guihua Lane tourist area, and its students take part in Miaoli County indigenous traditional sports competitions.
