A century-old school named for its town, relocated three times.
Nanxi Elementary School was established on April 20, 1920, with Governor-General approval, as “Tapani Public School Qieba Branch” (噍吧哖公學校茄拔分校) — “Qieba” being Nanxi's old name. It became an independent school as “Nanxi Public School” on April 24, 1921, was renamed “Nanxi National School” in 1941, and became “Nanxi Elementary School” in 1968. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary on March 5, 2022, with Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che in attendance. Over its history the campus has relocated three times: from its original site near today's Nanxi market, to what is now Nanxi Park, and finally to its current location. Today the school runs an outdoor-education program and a traditional drum-and-lion-dance team, which earned an “excellent” rating in the 2024 Traditional Arts Competition.
