Rebuilt after disaster, renowned for its art program.
Zhanghe Elementary was founded on April 26, 1960 as a branch of Nantou Elementary School, becoming independent in 1961 and taking its current name in 1968. The 1999 921 earthquake destroyed the campus, and it was rebuilt with support from the Tzu Chi Foundation — Master Cheng Yen herself attended the reconstruction groundbreaking ceremony in 2000. Today the school is known for a specialized visual-arts talent program that has become a defining feature of its identity.
