The first school in Pingzhen District.

Nanshi Elementary was founded in 1912, during the first year of the Taisho era of Japanese rule, making it the very first school established in Pingzhen District. Over the following century it was renamed repeatedly, tracking Taiwan's political transitions: Nanshi Public School in 1916, Nanshi National School in 1941, Pingzhen Township Central National School in 1946, Pingzhen Township Nanshi National School in 1950, and finally Nanshi Elementary School in 1968. The school celebrated its 110th anniversary with a visit from the Taoyuan mayor, who called it a model school for the city's progress, and it is widely cited as the oldest school in the entire district.
