A campus with a layered history.
Nanmen Junior High School opened in September 1968. Its campus was originally the site of the Japanese-era "Chengnan Elementary School" for Japanese children living south of Taipei's old city wall; after 1945 the site served for roughly two decades as the Taiwan Provincial Police School before being reclaimed by the city for the new junior high. The large campus — over 9,600 ping — grew in stages from 1968 to 1980 to include six classroom buildings (named Zhongxiao, Ren'ai, Xinyi, Heping, Dade, and Qinyun) plus an activity center. Alongside general classes, the school offers dedicated music-class and PE-class tracks. A same-address elementary school, South Gate Elementary, shared administration with it until splitting into its own independent school in 1989.

🤝 A Shared History with Nanmen Elementary
Nanmen Junior High shared one principal and administration with the same-address Nanmen Elementary School until the elementary school became fully independent in 1989.
Rooted in the old South Gate neighborhood.
Built on the grounds of a former police academy in the old "South Gate" (南門) neighborhood near the Botanical Garden, the school reflects the area's layered use — Qing-era city gate, Japanese-era school, postwar police training ground, then modern junior high. See the Taipei county page for more on the region.
