Nanhu Elementary opened as a branch school in 1918 and became independent in 1922, during the Japanese colonial era. Located in Yihe Village along Nanchang Road, it is one of the oldest schools in Dahu Township, with over a century of continuous service to the community. Today it serves as the primary feeder school for nearby Nanhu Junior High, carrying local students from their first years of schooling straight through into secondary education.
南湖國小於大正7年(1918年)以分校形式成立,大正11年(1922年)日治時期正式獨立設校,校址位於義和村南昌路,是大湖鄉歷史最悠久的學校之一,已持續服務社區逾百年。如今學校是鄰近南湖國中的主要學區小學,讓在地學生從小學一路銜接至國中教育。
