A century of names, a century of neighborhood memory.

Minzu Elementary was founded on April 1, 1919, under Japanese rule, as Chiayi's "Second Public School," with a new campus building completed the following year. It was renamed Tomon (東門) Public School in 1932/33 and Tomon National School in 1941. After Taiwan's 1945 retrocession to the Republic of China, the school moved to its present site and was renamed Minzu National School in 1946. It marked its 100th anniversary in March 2019 with a street parade and the unveiling of a centennial commemorative stone.
