The mother school of Fanlu Township.

Minhe Elementary opened in 1920, during the Japanese colonial era, as a branch of Chungpu Public School, becoming independent the same year as "Caigongdian Public School." It was renamed "Fanlu Public School" in 1925, "Fanlu National School" in 1941, "Minhe National School" in 1947, and finally "Minhe National Elementary School" in 1968 under the nine-year compulsory education reform. As the oldest school in Fanlu Township, Minhe is the "mother school" from which several other local schools branched off over the decades, including Datong, Liming, Neiweng, and Gongtian.

A century tracing Fanlu's settlement.

🌳

As the mother school from which nearly every other elementary school in Fanlu Township branched off — including Neiweng, Liming, and Datong — Minhe Elementary's century-long history literally traces the settlement and educational development of the persimmon- and fruit-farming villages that line the mountain road toward Alishan. See the Chiayi County page for more on the region.
