From Japanese rule to the county's largest junior high.
Mingzheng Junior High School was founded on June 28, 1946, as "Pingtung City First Junior High School." In 1947 it merged with the city's girls' commercial vocational school, was renamed Mingzheng Junior High School in 1950, and moved to its current Dalian Road site between 1952 and 1953. It took on its "國民中學" designation in 1968. Its long, multi-stage institutional history spans the transition from the Japanese-era to the postwar Taiwanese education system, and Gongzheng Junior High School was originally founded as one of its branches. Today it is the school with the most classes in Pingtung City.
明正國中創立於民國35年（1946年）6月28日，初名「屏東市立第一初級中學」。民國36年（1947年）與市立女子商業職業學校合併，民國39年（1950年）更名為明正初級中學，並於民國41至42年間（1952-53年）遷至現今大連路校址。民國57年（1968年）改制為「國民中學」。學校歷經日治至戰後台灣教育體制轉型的多階段沿革，公正國中即為其分部之一。現為屏東市班級數最多的國中。
