Mingyi Junior High is the newest junior high school in Siaogang District, founded in 1991. Its campus was built out in three phases, with the third and final phase completed in 1994 and formally ribbon-cut by then-Kaohsiung mayor Wu Den-yih. Its name, “明義” (“illuminating righteousness”), follows a Confucian-virtue naming pattern common among Taiwanese schools built during the 1990s school-expansion era.
明義國中是小港區最年輕的國中，創立於民國80年（1991年）。校園分三期興建，第三期（也是最後一期）工程於民國83年（1994年）完工，由時任高雄市長吳敦義親自主持剪綵。校名「明義」（意為「闡明道義」）延續了1990年代台灣校園擴建時期常見的儒家美德命名傳統。
