Meinong Junior High opened on November 23, 1946, under the name Kaohsiung County Meinong Junior High School (高雄縣立美濃初級中學), with Lin En-gui as its first principal. It was renamed a municipal school in December 2010 following Kaohsiung's county-city merger. The school has built a strong reputation for Hakka cultural heritage education, and its Hakka theatrical performance team has won multiple awards, actively passing on Hakka opera and theatre traditions to a new generation.
美濃國中於民國35年（1946年）10月創校，11月23日正式開學，最初名為「高雄縣立美濃初級中學」，首任校長為林恩貴。民國99年（2010年）縣市合併後，改制為市立學校。學校長期致力於客家文化資產教育，其客家戲劇表演團隊屢獲獎項，積極將客家戲曲傳統傳承給下一代。
