Meilun Junior High School traces its founding to March 1966, when the Hualien County government began planning it as "Hualien City First County Junior High School" the previous year. It was renamed Meilun Junior High in 1968, taking its name from Meilun — the hill and district on the north side of Hualien City. The school's current buildings were rebuilt in 1996, incorporating a "restroom in every classroom" design that was distinctive for its time.
美崙國中的歷史可追溯至1966年3月，花蓮縣政府於前一年開始規劃籌設「花蓮市第一縣立初級中學」。1968年更名為美崙國中，校名取自花蓮市北側的美崙山與美崙地區。現有校舍於1996年重建，並採用當時頗具特色的「每間教室設置廁所」設計。
