Mayuan Elementary School

Mayuan Elementary's history is unusually complex. A branch of Shulingtou Public School was established in the area in 1916 under Japanese colonial rule, becoming independent in 1920 — but in 1922, that original school lineage relocated, eventually becoming today's Xinshe Elementary. This left the Mayuan area without a school of its own for 38 years. A new branch was established in 1960, and it became independent as Mayuan Elementary on August 17, 1963, taking its current name in 1968. The first teachers back in 1916 were a Japanese instructor from Fukuoka and a local Taiwanese aide.

麻園國小的校史相當曲折。1916年，日治時期樹林頭公學校在當地設立分教場，1920年獨立設校，但1922年該校系脈遷校，後來成為今日的新社國小，使麻園地區有長達38年沒有自己的學校。1960年重新設立分校，1963年8月17日獨立設校，定名為麻園國小，1968年確立現今校名。1916年最初的教師為一位來自福岡的日籍教師與一位在地台籍助教。
