Named for Sun Yat-sen, reshaped over decades.

Zhongshan Junior High School traces its roots to Tanqi Elementary School, established in 1952, and was formally founded as "Zhongshan Junior High School" in 1968 at Banli Village to help implement nine-year compulsory education. It merged with Xingshi Elementary in 1974 to become "Zhongshan Junior-Elementary School," with the junior high division relocating to its current site in Qingbi Village in 1976 while the elementary section moved to Banli. Through a restructuring between 1980 and 1985, the school became the independent Zhongshan Junior High School it is today. The school's anniversary is celebrated on November 12 — the birthday of Sun Yat-sen, its namesake.

Local Culture ·

A Beigan school shaped by Matsu's era of change.

The school sits in scenic Qingbi (Chinbi) Village on Beigan Island, one of Matsu's most picturesque traditional harbor settlements. While no explicit frontline military history is recorded on the school's own site, its founding and restructuring took place during the same decades as Matsu's military governance era — the broader backdrop against which all of the archipelago's schools grew. See the Matsu county page for more on the region.
