The center school that once ran all of Beigan's education.
Tang Chi Elementary School was formally established in July 1952 as the educational center school for the entirety of Beigan Township, originally overseeing six branch schools at Houwo, Dazhu, Qiaozi, Qingbi, Banli, and Baisha. Those branch schools separated into independent institutions through 1960 and 1961, and the Houwo branch closed in 1970, consolidating its students at the main campus. Building reconstruction and new administrative offices were added between 1975 and 1986, an attached kindergarten opened in 1986, a new campus was completed in 2009, and the kindergarten expanded to accept children age two and older by 2014.

Rooted in Beigan's fishing-village life.
No explicit references to Matsu's frontline military history appear in the school's own historical records. Like the rest of Beigan Township, the school's community is rooted in the traditional Fuzhou-dialect fishing-village culture that defines daily life across the Matsu archipelago. See the Matsu county page for more on the region.
