From a temple branch school to a single modern campus.
Ren-Ai Elementary School was established in 1951 as "South Nangan District Jen'ai National Elementary School" under the Matsu Administrative Bureau. In 1953 it relocated to temple premises and became known as "Matsu National School Second Branch." The school gained independent status in 1960, then oversaw two branch schools of its own, before being renamed to its current name in 1969. Its various sites were consolidated onto a single campus in 1986, with a new teaching building completed in 2011 and a faculty dormitory added in 2018.

Garrison soldiers as the earliest teachers.
The school's own history records that early operations "largely relied on garrison troops providing volunteer teaching" because of inadequate facilities and a shortage of qualified faculty — a direct reflection of Matsu's military frontline history and the Fujian-provincial-era administrative governance under which the school first took shape.
