Founded by soldiers fleeing the mainland, named for a statesman.
Jingheng Junior High & Elementary School was founded in 1950 as "Baiquan Elementary School," when military personnel — following the fall of Changle County in Fujian to mainland forces — established a three-classroom school on Baiquan Island. It was renamed "Wuhang Central Civil School" in 1953 under the newly formed county government, then transferred to Lienchiang County administration in 1957 when Matsu came under military governance, at which point a junior high division was added and the school took the name "Jingheng," honoring republic-era statesman Wu Jingheng. The junior high and elementary divisions were officially merged in 1974 under nine-year compulsory education, and a kindergarten was added in 1986 and modernized in 2013.
