One root, two schools.

Maolin Elementary School shares its origin story with neighboring Maolin Junior High School. Both descend from a four-year Type-A Aboriginal Children's Education Institute established around 1917, during the Japanese colonial era, which was renamed simply "Education Institute" in 1932. Through subsequent reorganizations the lineage became Meiya Elementary School and then Maolin Elementary School, and for a time it incorporated a combined junior-high division, before the two schools separated into independent elementary and junior-high institutions in 1999 and 2005. Today Maolin Elementary continues to serve the Rukai Indigenous community of Maolin District.
