A school that shares its name with a tribal settlement.
Malan Elementary's history connects back to a branch school established alongside what became Sinsheng Elementary on May 18, 1897. The present-day "Malan National School" was newly founded in August 1967, initially borrowing classrooms from Sinsheng Elementary while its own campus was built. Today roughly 100 of the school's approximately 500 students are Amis Indigenous, and the school's name, "馬蘭," refers directly to the historic Amis Malan settlement in Taitung City that it serves.
