Majia Junior High was founded in August 1968 as the first junior high school established to serve the three mountain townships of Sandimen, Wutai, and Majia — a pioneering institution that brought secondary education to Pingtung's indigenous highlands for the first time. The school serves a largely Paiwan indigenous student body drawn from Majia Township and sits near the Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Culture Park, one of the region's most significant cultural landmarks.
瑪家國中創立於民國57年（1968年）8月，是屏東三地門、霧台、瑪家三個山地鄉最早設立的國中，開創了原住民山地地區中等教育的先河。學校學生以排灣族為主，來自瑪家鄉各部落，校址鄰近台灣原住民族文化園區，是當地重要的文化地標之一。
