Luzhu Elementary School

Named for the reeds along local waterways, this school gave the district its own name and grew out of the historic Dazhu settlement.

Founded to shorten a 4-kilometer walk.

Luzhu Elementary began in August 1946 as "Dazhu Elementary's Luzhu Satellite Classroom," created specifically to solve a transportation problem: local children previously had to walk roughly 4 km to reach Dazhu Elementary School. It opened with just over 40 students meeting in a borrowed assembly hall, became independent as "Luzhu Elementary School" in August 1951, and was formally renamed "Taoyuan County Luzhu Township Luzhu Elementary School" in September 1968. The school was designated a nutrition-education model school in 1961, built an all-concrete campus in 1979, added an attached kindergarten in August 2015, and adopted the 12-year "108 Curriculum" in August 2019.

🎋

Luzhu Elementary — and the district's own name, "Luzhu" (蘆竹, "reed bamboo") — grew directly out of the historic Dazhu settlement's school system, named for the reeds and bamboo once common along the local waterways. It's a direct etymological link between the school and the identity of the district it now shares its name with. See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
