A small school with a century-long thread of history.
Luye Elementary traces its origins to "Luye Public School" (鹿野公學校), founded in 1923 during the Japanese colonial era to educate Han Chinese children near the Luye train station. The school went through several name changes and a period of closure across the following decades, re-emerging as an independent "Luye National School" in 1961 and taking its present name, Luye National Elementary School, in 1968 as part of Taiwan's nine-year compulsory education reform. In 2005, it was designated an Indigenous Focus School. Today it is a small campus — about 38 students across six classes as of 2024 — serving Luye Village and the nearby Heping (Parayapai) settlement.

🎼 An Ocarina and Recorder Legacy
After years of fielding baseball, basketball, and field hockey teams, shrinking enrollment led the school to concentrate its energy on ocarina and recorder ensembles as its signature music program.
🏫 Nearly a Century of Continuity
The school's lineage runs back to a 1923 village school for Han settlers near the Luye train station — through name changes, a wartime-era closure, and a 1961 refounding — to the campus operating today.
🪶 An Indigenous Focus School
Designated an Indigenous Focus School in 2005, the school serves a student body that is now majority Indigenous — mostly Amis — including children from the nearby Heping (Parayapai) settlement.
🎒 A Very Small Campus
With roughly 38 students across six elementary classes as of 2024, Luye Elementary is a tight-knit rural school shaped by Taiwan's declining birth rate, like many of its neighbors in the East Rift Valley.
Luye Township, land of balloons and tea.
Luye Township 鹿野鄉 is famous for its annual hot-air balloon festival and its high-altitude tea-growing plateau. Luye Elementary sits in the township's village center near the historic train station, within reach of both the balloon festival grounds and the highland tea fields that define the local economy.
