A small hillside school amid citrus orchards.
Longyuan Elementary was founded in 1955 on a small hillside campus of about 1.74 hectares. Its current enrollment is under 100 students across 6 classes, making it one of the smallest schools in the district. The school has a distinctive vertically-oriented playground layout — unusual compared to the typical horizontal school-yard design — enclosed by surrounding buildings. Its gate features red-brick pillars with white walls and two decorative columns topped with planetary sculptures of Earth and Venus, and the entrance is decorated with student-made ceramic and mosaic artwork. The campus is surrounded by citrus and pomelo orchards, and features a bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen.

A dragon-named school amid citrus orchards.
Longyuan Elementary is one of the three original "dragon-named" Longtan elementary schools, alongside Longtan Elementary and Longxing Elementary; its small hillside site amid citrus orchards reflects the rural highland-farming character of Longtan outside the town center. See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
