A school built on layered history.

Longgang Elementary School existed as "Lizilun National School" from October 1945, at Taiwan's retrocession, before being renamed Longgang National School in January 1951. It became Longgang Elementary School in September 1968 under Taiwan's nine-year compulsory education reform. The campus totals 19,966 square meters, including a 3,786-square-meter area containing a Pingpu (Plains Indigenous) archaeological site on a rear hill — a notable heritage feature. The school's lineage also includes a former branch, Wangliao Branch, established in 1951 and made independent in 1960 as today's Wangliao Elementary School.

Layers of history beneath a fishing township.

🏺

The campus's Pingpu Indigenous archaeological site connects the school directly to the pre-Han indigenous history of the Dongshi coastal plain, layered beneath its now Han fishing-and-farming community. See the Chiayi county page for more on the region.
