Lize Elementary was founded on April 26, 1899, during the Japanese colonial era, as "利澤簡公學校" — one of the earliest Japanese-era public schools established in the region. It renamed to its current name in 1968. Over 125 years ago, the school began with just three or four teachers and a few dozen students; its original campus site is now the Lize Community Activity Center. The school sits near Lize Old Street, in what was once one of Yilan's busiest river-trade settlements.
利澤國小創立於日治時期的民國前13年（1899年）4月26日，當時名為「利澤簡公學校」，是這個地區最早設立的日治時期公學校之一，民國57年（1968年）更為現名。125多年前，學校僅有三、四位教師與數十名學生；原始校址如今已改建為利澤社區活動中心。學校鄰近利澤老街，這裡曾是宜蘭最繁忙的河港貿易聚落之一。
