Liuqiu Elementary School

Liuqiu Elementary is the oldest school on Xiaoliuqiu island, founded in 1899 during the Japanese colonial era as "東港公學校琉球分教場" (Donggang Public School Liuqiu Branch Classroom) — the first formal school the island ever had. Classes began on November 28, 1899, at Biyun Temple, taught by local instructor Jiang Huanwen. Over the following decades, this founding school became the root from which Baisha, Quande, and Tiannan Elementary Schools all later branched off after WWII. Centrally located in the island's town center, it is a landmark tourists pass on their way through Liuqiu village, and has been designated a "featured disaster-prevention campus" in national disaster-education resources. By 2023, notably, all four elementary and junior-high principals on Xiaoliuqiu were, for the first time, natives of the island themselves.

琉球國小是小琉球島上歷史最悠久的學校，創立於1899年（明治32年）日治時期，初名「東港公學校琉球分教場」，是全島第一所正式學校。1899年11月28日，學校在碧雲寺開課，由當地教師江煥文授課。此後數十年間，這所創校學校成為戰後白沙、全德、天南等國小陸續分校獨立的源頭。學校位於島嶼市街中心地帶，是遊客行經琉球村時必經的地標，並曾獲選為國家防災教育資源中的「特色防災校園」。值得一提的是，到2023年，小琉球全島四所國中小的校長，首度全部由在地土生土長的島民擔任。
