Profile

One school, two divisions, from Meinong to the mountains.

Liouguei Senior High School traces its roots to September 1956, when it opened as a branch of Meinong Middle School (高雄縣立美濃中學六龜分部), founded to serve the more remote, mountainous Liouguei area along the Laonong River, apart from Meinong's Hakka cultural center. It became independent in 1958 as Kaohsiung County Liouguei Junior High School, was renamed Kaohsiung County Liouguei National Junior High School in 1968, and was upgraded to a complete school spanning junior and senior high divisions in 2000. Note: this school appears twice in some directories — once as 高雄市立六龜高級中學 (senior high) and once as 六龜高級中學附屬國民中學 (its junior-high division) — because it is a single institution, with one principal and one campus, under one administration since 2000. It became a Kaohsiung City school after the 2010 county-city merger. As of 2014 the school enrolled around 409 students on a campus of about 2.98 hectares, and it maintains an Indigenous rugby team, a choral group, and a sister-school relationship with an agricultural high school in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.
