Named for the man who watered the Taipei Basin.
Liugong Junior High School began with a preparatory office in 1978, was formally established in 1979 under founding principal Ye Jiandeng, and began enrolling students in 1980. The school is named to commemorate Guo Xiliu, the Qing-dynasty pioneer who built the Liugong Canal irrigation system that once watered much of the Taipei Basin — the campus itself sits on land created by filling in a former reservoir pond of that same canal system, donated by the Liugong Farmland Irrigation Association. The school today runs international-education exchanges, including a partnership with Institution Saint-Louis in France, alongside hands-on elective courses such as drone operation, folding-fan painting, and bubble-tea making.

Built on the water that made Taipei possible.
The school's very site is reclaimed land from a pond of the historic Liugong Canal (瑠公圳), the 18th-century irrigation network that made large-scale rice farming possible in the Taipei Basin. Sitting at the foot of Tiger Mountain, part of the Four Beasts Mountains range, the campus is a direct physical link between Xinyi's pre-urban agrarian past and its current dense development. See the Taipei city page for more on the region.
