A different Indigenous story, in the same township.

Lishan Elementary began in 1949 as a branch of Lunshan Elementary, became independent on February 16, 1952, relocated to its present site the following year, and took its current name in 1968. The school marked its 70th anniversary in 2022. What sets Lishan apart within Zhuoxi Township is its student body: while most Zhuoxi schools serve overwhelmingly Bunun communities, Lishan's Indigenous students — who made up about 98% of enrollment as of 2018 — are roughly half Seediq and half Truku, two ethnically distinct Indigenous peoples with their own languages and traditions.

🪢

Zhuoxi Township is best known as a Bunun Indigenous mountain district near Yushan National Park, but Lishan Elementary reflects a different thread within that same township — a community rooted in Seediq and Truku heritage instead. See the Hualien schools page for the full township list.
