A school that moved, and a name that stuck.
Linsen Elementary opened on April 1, 1939, as "Chiayi Shinko Public School," with 15 classes and 1,123 students, on a site now part of National Chiayi University's Linsen campus. It was renamed Linsen National School in December 1945 in honor of former ROC Chairman Lin Sen. In 1957, its original campus land was given to the newly formed Chiayi Normal School, and the school relocated to its current Linsen East Road site, moving into new buildings in 1959. It celebrated its 85th anniversary in November 2024.
林森國小創校於民國28年（1939年）4月1日，初名「嘉義新高公學校」，開校時有15班、1,123名學生，原址即今國立嘉義大學林森校區所在。民國34年（1945年）12月更名為林森國民學校，以紀念國民政府主席林森。民國46年（1957年），原校地撥交新設之嘉義師範學校使用，學校遷至現址林森東路，於民國48年（1959年）遷入新校舍。民國113年（2024年）11月，學校歡慶創校85週年。
