Where the turtles brought a kirin's luck.
Linluo Township is a small Hakka township that is part of the Liudui (六堆) cultural region's "front camp", where Hakka residents make up roughly 87% of the population. The township's name derives from a Qing-era legend of giant turtles found while digging irrigation channels — taken as an auspicious sign that "where there are turtles, there must be a kirin" (麟). See the Pingtung county page for more on the region.
