A hilltop school named for its ridge.
Lingyun Junior High began in April 1969 as a preparatory committee for a Longtan Junior High branch campus in Shanglin Village, before being formally established and named that August with its first incoming class. The school takes its name from "凌雲崗" (Lingyun Ridge), the hill in Shanglin where its campus sits. It was renamed from Taoyuan County to Taoyuan City designation in December 2014 when Taoyuan County was upgraded to a special municipality, and it has since marked its 50th anniversary with school-founding festivities.
