A district namesake with a decades-long dance tradition.
Lingya Junior High began in 1957 as a branch of Kaohsiung Municipal Second Middle School, becoming an independent school and adopting its current name in 1968. The school is best known for its Dance-Talent Class, running continuously since 1981 — more than four decades of specialized dance education. It takes its name from 苓雅寮, a historic fishing-and-farming hamlet near the old Takao Harbor, tying the district's name to Kaohsiung's pre-modern origins as a fishing village.

Namesake of Kaohsiung's old fishing hamlet.
The school's name traces back to 苓雅寮, a historic fishing-and-farming hamlet near the old Takao Harbor — the very settlement that gave the whole of Lingya District its name, a history it shares with Chenggong and Lingzhou Elementary Schools nearby. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
