A school relocated over flood risk.
Lingkou Elementary traces its origins to 1922, when it opened as the Xizhou Branch Teaching Site (溪洲分教場) during the Japanese colonial era, becoming an independent school in 1962 as Lingkou National School. The school's original planned site was rejected due to flood risk, so private land was acquired instead for its current campus. Its name, "嶺口" — meaning "ridge-pass mouth" — describes its location at a hill-pass entrance in southern Cishan.

🏫 Four Decades From Branch to Independence
What began in 1922 as a small branch teaching site didn't become a fully independent school until 1962 — a path shared by several rural Cishan schools.
At the mouth of a southern Cishan pass.
"嶺口" (ridge-pass mouth) names the school's position at a hill-pass entrance in southern Cishan District, a terrain that also shaped where its original campus could safely be built. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
