The mother school of northern Pingtung.
Ligang Elementary was founded in 1900 (Meiji 33), during the Japanese colonial era, as "Ali-gang Public School" (阿里港公學校) — the first public school established in the northern Pingtung region and the ninth in the county overall. It was built on the former site of the Qing-dynasty Xuefeng Academy Renamed several times through the following decades — Ligang Public School in 1921, Ligang East National School in 1941, and its current name in 1968 — the school's historic district originally spanned present-day Ligang, Jiuru, Yanpu, and Gaoshu Townships, making it the "mother school" of elementary education across the whole northern Pingtung farming region. As of the 2022 school year, 383 students were enrolled. The campus is home to three centenary banyan trees, which were treated for brown root rot in 2019 through tree-rescue efforts supported by alumni.

A century-old anchor of northern Pingtung farmland.
As a century-old school in Ligang Township's agricultural plains near Cishan, Ligang Elementary has historically been the origin school for the whole northern Pingtung farming region, known for its pig's-knuckle, betel-nut, and rice cultivation. Its founding on the site of a Qing-dynasty academy — followed by generations of institutional growth and branch schools splitting off across four townships — makes it one of the clearest living links between Pingtung's Qing-era, Japanese colonial, and postwar educational history.
