About · 學校簡介

An elementary school named for the island itself.

Lanyu Elementary is one of the small public elementary schools serving the Tao (Yami) villages scattered around Orchid Island's coastline. Like its sister schools on the island, it serves an almost entirely Indigenous student body whose daily life is shaped by the rhythms of fishing, the seasonal flying-fish harvest, and a strong sense of community tied to a specific home village. Detailed institutional records for the school are limited, but it forms part of the same network of Tao village schools — alongside Langdao, Dongqing, and Yeyou Elementary — that together educate every child on the island before they move on to Lanyu High School.

🌊 Island Life as the Everyday Classroom

島嶼生活即日常教室

As with the island's other village schools, students here grow up immersed in the ocean, the flying-fish season, and a close-knit Tao community that shapes learning far beyond the classroom walls.

🎣 A Nearly Entirely Tao Student Body

學生幾乎全為達悟族

Like its neighboring schools, Lanyu Elementary serves an almost entirely Tao (Yami) Indigenous population, making the school a genuine reflection of the island's community.

Orchid Island and the Tao people.

🛶

Lanyu Elementary serves families of the Tao (Yami) people, Taiwan's only Indigenous community traditionally settled on an offshore island, with a distinct Austronesian language and a culture built around the plank canoe and the seasonal flying-fish harvest — heritage quite different from Taiwan's fifteen other recognized Indigenous peoples.
