Lantan Junior High School

Lantan Junior High School was approved in 1961 as "Chiayi County's Third Middle School," and formally took the name Lantan Junior High in 1962 under its first principal, Chen Jiaxiong. Over the following years, it served as the parent institution for three branch schools that later became independent: Beixing (1962), Lucao (1965), and Minhe (1967). The school became a municipal institution in 1982, when Chiayi City was upgraded to provincial-city status, and remains one of Taiwan's few remaining all-boys junior high schools, sharing an enrollment zone with Chiayi Junior High.

蘭潭國中於民國50年（1961年）獲准設立為「嘉義縣立第三初級中學」，民國51年（1962年）在首任校長陳嘉雄先生任內正式定名為「蘭潭國中」。此後陸續有三所分校獨立設校：北興（1962年）、鹿草（1965年）及民和（1967年）。民國71年（1982年）嘉義市升格為省轄市後，改隸市立。該校至今仍是臺灣少數僅存的男子國中之一，與嘉義國中共享學區。
