About · 學校簡介

A tiny school serving a Tao coastal village.

Langdao Elementary serves Iraraley (Langdao) village, one of the six traditional Tao settlements strung around Orchid Island's coastline. It is one of the smallest schools on the island, with roughly 27 students across six classes, reflecting the scale of a community that has always measured itself by fishing boats and households rather than population. The village and school sit directly on Lanyu's coastal ring road, within sight of some of the island's most distinctive volcanic rock formations.

🏘️ A True Village School

道地的部落小學

With about 27 students across six classes, Langdao Elementary is small enough that every child is known by name — a scale typical of the six traditional Tao settlements on Orchid Island.

🛶

Langdao Elementary serves Iraraley (Langdao) village, one of six traditional Tao (Yami) settlements on Orchid Island. The Tao are Taiwan's only Indigenous community traditionally based on an offshore island, with a distinct language and a culture centered on plank-canoe building and the seasonal flying-fish harvest — heritage quite different from Taiwan's other fifteen recognized Indigenous peoples.
