One school, two divisions, a Paiwan community's anchor.
A preparatory office for the school was established in 1967, and it officially opened in August 1968 as Pingtung County Laiyi Junior High School. In 2002, the school was reorganized into a full comprehensive institution combining both junior high and senior high divisions — meaning that "來義國中" (Laiyi Junior High) is not a separate present-day school, but simply the junior-high division of this same institution. The school is designated as an Indigenous (Paiwan) experimental education school, with programs in technology, indigenous humanities, indigenous arts, and athletics talent cultivation, including two regular senior-high classes, one sports class, and an arts program added in 2004. Its school motto is 誠.正.勤.樸 (Sincerity, Righteousness, Diligence, Simplicity). Though administratively registered in Laiyi Township, the campus itself sits within neighboring Wanluan Township. Over its history the school also spun off two other junior highs that became independent institutions: Chunri Junior High (branch 1970, independent 1971) and Taiwu Junior High (branch 1973, independent 1977).
What makes this school worth knowing.

🌱 A School That Grew Two More
The school's branch-school program produced two now-independent institutions — Chunri Junior High (independent 1971) and Taiwu Junior High (independent 1977) — a mark of its role as an educational anchor for the region.
At the center of a Paiwan mountain community.
The school sits at the center of a Paiwan indigenous mountain community in Laiyi Township, one of Pingtung's Paiwan-majority townships in the foothills of the Central Mountain Range. Laiyi is home to the largest Paiwan indigenous population of any third-level administrative division in Taiwan, and the school's designation as an Indigenous experimental school reflects that deep cultural setting. See the Pingtung county page for more on the region.
