Taiwan's westernmost elementary school.
Kunshen Elementary was founded in February 1946, in the fishing village of Qingkunshen (青鯤鯓, "Green Kunshen"). Local media report it as the westernmost elementary school on the main island of Taiwan, and its rebuilt campus features a distinctive Mediterranean-style architecture. Since 2010, its performing-arts program has shifted from a Ten-Drum (十鼓) percussion troupe to a lion-dance war-drum troupe (醒獅戰鼓團).

📚 Two Community Storybooks
兩本社區繪本
The school and its students have documented the local "Green Kunshen" fish-sandbar legend in two self-published community storybooks, "《青鯤鯓的時光隧道》" and "《傳說青鯤鯓》."
Named for a fish-shaped sandbar.
The surrounding village, Qingkunshen ("Green Kunshen"), is named because its offshore sandbar, seen in sunlight, resembles the body of a greenish kun-fish (鯤). Perched on this westernmost sandbar community, Kunshen Elementary has built its curriculum directly around this fish-shaped sandbar legend that gives its fishing community its name and identity, documenting it in two student-written community storybooks. See the Tainan city page for more on the region.
