Zhuwei Elementary was established in August 1992 under founding principal Li Qingji, with its campus built in phases from 1994 to 2001. The school was created to serve the population growth that followed a 1987 urban land readjustment in Gangshan, which transformed a farming village into a modern residential area.
竹圍國小創立於民國81年（1992年）8月，首任校長為李清吉，校舍於1994年至2001年間分階段興建。學校的設立是為了因應民國76年（1987年）岡山市地重劃後帶來的人口成長，當時一個農業聚落逐漸轉型為現代化住宅區。
