Zhongyi Elementary became an independent school in August 1965, having originally grown out of a branch campus of Yongfang Elementary. Its first principal, Luo Ren-zhen, took office in 1968. The school sits at the foot of Fenghuang (Phoenix) Mountain, adjacent to the Army Academy — a location that connects it to Kaohsiung's post-1949 military-education history — and today serves as a pilot school for bilingual education, ecology, mountain-wilderness education, and technology.
忠義國小於民國54年（1965年）8月獨立設校，原為永芳國小的分校，首任校長羅仁貞於1968年到任。學校座落於鳳凰山麓，緊鄰陸軍軍官學校，這樣的地理位置也連結了高雄1949年後的軍事教育歷史。目前學校為雙語教育、生態、山野教育與科技等試辦計畫學校。
